The main purpose of this application is to connect to the remote TOWL semantic annotation server and display the annotated news in context for demonstration and evaluation purposes.
To use the demonstrator, just the client application needs to be downloaded and installed, keeping the installation complexity minimal.
The News Client application shows the expected impact – in terms of a positive or negative expected effect -of the news on the value of an equity portfolio. This is done by analysing news messages from predetermined sources using a fixed set of business logic stored in a TOWL ontology. Furthermore, the client offers navigation functions to quickly locate news messages containing specific equities or events. Vice versa, the equities and events identified in a specific news message can be easily identified.
The Semantic trader differs form similar applications by using an ontology based repository of temporal knowledge. Storing the semantic information in an ontology facilitates homogeneity and re-use of knowledge – particular advantages for a knowledge based economy.
